Do you know what ingredients are in your food? If you're not sure, take a peek. If you are eating lots of pre-processed foods you are not eating healthy.
Don't Eat What You Don't Know
A good rule of thumb is if you don't know what it is, and can't pronounce it, don't eat it! Read food labels and see if your food falls into this realm. Do your eyes glaze over trying to figure out those long chemical names? Then it's not healthy for you to eat. Put it back and go to the produce section. If you need a masters in chemistry to know your food, you're eating the wrong stuff.
Shorter Ingredient Lists
I read labels. I like to know what I'm eating, and you should too. Look for short ingredient lists. The longer the list, the more unhealthy. It makes sense. What sounds healthier? Cheese, milk, whey; or water, high fructose corn syrup, cheese product, powdered milk, x as a preservative, etc.?
Processed Food
Processing is bad for your food, and processed food is bad for you. It removes the nutrition that existed before the factory. TV dinners might be the worst. When I met my husband, he had a freezer full of them. They're quick and easy, but they taste disgusting, and are chocked full of chemicals and preservatives. They're not all that cheap, especially if you take into account the medical bills that result from an unhealthy diet. And what's the point of food that is processed and then has chemicals added back to it, i.e. adding vitamins back to veggie meals that have been robbed of nutritional content? Go straight to the source. Eat real vegetables! They're great for you and there is no comparison when it comes to taste. Real food is the way to go.
Everyone should really know what they're eating, even if it's bad. At least be responsibly aware of it. Hopefully that awareness will prompt better food choices.
